The year of the Euro 2008 - the european football-championship - motivated the organisors to provide a very special surprise to the participants: the last 100 meters - after passing the "Heldentor" were build like a lawn of a football-field! A great idea for an impressive finish of a great marathon.
The Vienna-City-Marathon is a race I would recommend warmly to all marathon-fans - and this is not because it's my home-race.
The course is well chosen, leading through the center of this beautiful town along much well-known architecture as well as through the long alleys of the "Prater" - the green lung of Vienna with a turn around the "Lusthaus". Due to many different possibilities  of taking part there are around 30.000 participants and even more spectators on the road - guaranteeing a fabulous atmosphere over almost the whole course - there are comparatively only a few of those long, boring kilometers that you find at each city-marathon.
Summing up the VCM is one of the best - don't miss it!
